About Us

Our Story

Founded in 2006, Mazzarino Construction & Development has become one of Houston’s premier home builders in the heart of the city.

In the summer of 2009, young entrepreneurs Richard Mazzarino and Jonathan Antao, once direct competitors, decided to bring their companies Blue Water Homes and The Mazzarino Group together to form Mazzarino Construction & Development. Since the formation of the new company, Mazzarino Construction & Development has built hundreds of homes in the most desirable neighborhoods of Houston and developed a reputation as Houston’s premier infill builder.

Why Us?

Home building isn’t an investment; it’s a difficult industry with hundreds of moving parts at every project. Look at small builders around the city and you’ll understand what we mean. So many projects in the city are built by general contractors with financial backers behind them looking to make a quick buck, an “investment.” When the project is done, they move on to the next one with no attachment to the last because there isn’t a company behind it. A few years ago, Richard and Jon cowrote an article for the Houston Business Journal titled “Four Tips When Choosing Your Home Builder” calling attention to this very point. Who is the team behind your home? Is there actually a team? Who do you notify when there is a warranty concern? Does the builder genuinely have a vested interest in your continued satisfaction after move-in or are you after thought? These are all valid questions you should ask yourself in your buying journey. Knowing your builders reputation is so important. It may be a guy in a pickup truck with a cellphone who builds for whoever calls him financially backed by his dentist; or it could be a well-oiled, fully integrated machine with administration, purchasing, field management, design, and customer service in house. Which would you rather work with? We have proudly been building under the Mazzarino name while steadily growing our team to service hundreds of our happy homeowners since 2006. Our name is synonymous with quality, attention to detail, and customer service; we aim to offer every one of our customers that wow experience from more optionality and choice in your new home, to the care that goes into construction and handing over the keys, to taking care of your needs after move in. Our growing company has been featured on CNBC’s Power Lunch, had articles written about us in the Houston Business Journal, written articles for the Houston Business Journal, been featured in Houston Voyage Magazine, and been named one of the fastest growing companies in America by Inc. Magazine.

Beliefs, Culture, & Company Values

Since 2006 we have focused on the neighborhoods you love and homes that you will make you weak in the knees. We pride ourselves on delivering the best homes imaginable, that work for a modern lifestyle, WHERE YOU WANT TO LIVE. Our design staff works tirelessly to keep our houses fresh and on trend while maintaining that indescribable essence that makes it a home. When you walk into one of our finished homes it’s our expectation that the home is ready for you to move in tomorrow, it should look THAT good. Go ahead, go through one of our models and then one of our competitors and let us know which looks better. Buying a home is a big deal and we take your business seriously. We focus on a transparent and satisfying experience for every customer, every time. No matter the cost of the home. Over 15 years and hundreds of closing we’ve fine tuned our processes to get your home built, inspected, and ensure you know your new home backwards and forwards before its time to move in. We pride ourselves on doing “the right thing.” It’s kind of cheesy to say, but it’s not that complicated. No, that doesn’t mean doing whatever the customer says (we bet you wish that were the case though!); it means can you sleep well at night knowing that you did what you know to be the right thing when presented with a situation? Say an inspector didn’t call something out on an inspection report but in your heart of hearts you knew it was wrong; did you skip it because it wasn’t called out or did you correct it because you knew it wasn’t right? It sounds simple but not everyone does it.

The average team member has worked for Mazzarino for over five years. There’s a reason for that. We’ve worked hard to foster an environment that is collaborative, challenging, and genuinely enjoyable. It’s a tight knit community here at Mazzarino; one where coworkers are happy to help out when someone goes on vacation or to pick up the slack when you’re having a rough day. We want our team to feel empowered and help their team members out when needed, not because they’re asked, because they want to. We believe that a team truly does their best work when they care about the people they are doing the work with, and who they do the work for. Our trade partners are just as important as team members. We have high expectations from them and they from us. It’s why we have industry leading payment terms and recently started doing annual thank you events. It’s through this mutually beneficial relationship that we are able to turn out some of the best homes available in Houston’s heart.

We have worked tirelessly to build a reputation for honesty, integrity, and building a really, really nice home. It’s something that we strive to do better every day and something that we hope we can take to more folks across Houston, across Texas, and hopefully one day, across the nation.

Giving Back

Neighborhood Commitment

We’re an active community member in the neighborhoods that we build in. What does that mean? Each year we sponsor school field days, little league teams, contribute and volunteer with local neighborhood charities, the SPCA, the Houston Food Bank, blood donation events, and a growing list of causes we support. We intend to continue this local commitment to new neighborhoods as we expand over the coming years because we don’t just believe in building homes for people to live in; we believe in building the communities that support those homes as well.

Thinking about the Planet

For every home that we build we plant 100 trees through our partnership with one tree planted in various locations all over the world. This partnership has grown 10x over the years and Mazzarino has been directly responsible for planting over 5000 trees in regions across the globe where they’re needed the most. We are hoping that by 2030, our commitment will have resulted in over 100,000 trees planted as the movement gets bigger. The idea for this came out of an incident where we had to remove a tree that was leaning heavily to protect a home. We were discouraged that this lovely tree had to come down so we thought, why don’t we do something to not only preserve more trees; but plant more tree? So our planting program was born.

We are committed to the reuse and recycling of construction materials. A big part of our business is readapting and redeveloping properties that are far beyond repair. Some of these properties are barely standing and some simply have floorplans that don’t work for a modern homebuyer. In these instances we donate leftover or recyclable building materials to groups like habitat for humanity and other local groups that repurpose vintage building materials. When there is nothing left to salvage inside; we seek out partners to donate the entire structure to who can often put them to a variety of uses. We know that no one likes when we tear something down, we get it, but not only are we building something new and beautiful for a family to move into; we are reusing every bit we can of each structure we are acquiring, and tearing down is always the last resort.
